Giving Up On Adult Fiction

I love to read. It’s probably my favorite way to spend free time by myself. But one of the most difficult aspects of reading for me is finding interesting stuff to read, and more recently, appropriate stuff to read. Being a middle school teacher, I enjoy reading middle school and high school level fiction, partly to be able to give recommendations to students, but mostly because I like the stories offered to adolescence, specifically coming-of-age. Lately, I’ve been trying to venture out into adult fiction because, well, I’m an adult, and I have a ton of free time this summer to fill. But I’ve been heavily disappointed. I enjoy reading about heavy issues that adults face, but I get distracted by the free use of profanity and sexuality (snogging is about the most I need to know about). When I read, I become absorbed into the story; therefore, reading profane and sexually vulgar language has more of an impact than seeing it on a screen (which I don’t enjoy either). I’m sure these author’s have terrific plot lines and interesting characters, but I can’t get past vulgarity on every other page. I feel robbed by the author of the story. That’s annoying.

Why a Blog?

I’ve thought to myself, why do all these people have blogs? Who cares what these people have to say? Who even reads this stuff? The truth of the matter is, probably next to no one.

So why start a blog if no one is going to read it? I like to write, but not the actual handwriting way, so to be more precise, it would be better stated that I like to type. I also have thoughts about things. I figured, if I combine my liking of typing with my liking of having thoughts, I would have the beginning of blog. So here it is…
